4.Define and Distinguish between

(a) Steady and unsteady flow

(b) Uniform and non uniform flow

(c) Rotational and irrotational flow

5.A simple U tube manometer containing mercury is connected to a pipe in which oil specific gravity 0.8 is flowing. The pressure in the pipe is vaccum the other end of he manometer is open to the atmosphere. Find the vaccum pressure in the pipe. If the difference the mercury level in the tubes is 20 cm and height of oil in the left limb from the center of pipe 15 cm below.

6.A circular opening 3m diameter, in a vertical side of tank is closed by a disc diameter which can rotate about a horizontal diameter. Calculate

a) The force on the disc

b) Torque required to maintain the disc in equilibrium in the vertical position when the height of water above the horizontal diameter is 6 m

7.The end gates ABC of a lock are 9m high and when closed include an angle of 120 the way of lock is 10 m. Each gate is supported by two hinges located at 1m and 6 m above the bottom of the lock. The depths of water on the two sides are 8 m and 4 m respec tively

8. a) What is meant by stability of floating body? Explain the stability of floating body with reference to its metacentric height.

b)Describe briefly the experimental method of determination of Metacentric height of floating body

9. A body has the cylindrical upper portion of 3 m diameter and 1.8 m deep. The lower portion of a curved one, which displaces a volume of 0.6 m3 of water. The center of buoyancy of curved portion is at a distance of 1.95m below the top of the cylinder. The total displacement of water is tonnes.Find the metacentric height of the body.
